Meet the April 2018 Students of the Month
On-Campus Student: Austin Jansonius
Austin Jansonius is a senior at FHSU from Meade, Kansas. He is close to completing his B.B.A in Management and also plans to obtain a Banking Certificate. On campus, Austin is a member of Fort Hays Honor Society. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, fishing, watching Netflix, and spending time with family and friends. The reason Austin chose to get involved with Leadership Programs was the way in which leadership plays a role in business and society. He found it helpful to become more knowledgeable about the subject and give himself a chance to improve his leadership skills. Austin’s favorite class so far has been Introduction to Leadership Behavior. He really enjoyed how the class focused on strategies and skills used to effectively participate in the leadership process. It was a very enjoyable learning experience for Austin.
Virtual Student: Tara Ritter
From Wichita, Kansas, Tara Ritter is a senior at FHSU. She is a virtual student working towards a Bachelor of Arts and Humanities in Organizational Leadership. Tara is very active in her community and participates/volunteers for The Tallgrass Film Festival, St. Paul Breakfast for the Homeless, Struggling and Hungry, and the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Outside of school, she loves to read, be outdoors, study natural remedies and nutrition, hang out with her dogs, write short-stories, and cook. Tara chose to get involved with Leadership Programs because she saw many connections between her life and leadership skills. She also desired to surround herself with like-minded people who desire to motivate and inspire others to make a change. Her favorite class is Leadership in Team Dynamics. She not only found the content exciting, she loved the immediate practical applications. However, what really stood out for her was the instructor, Dr. Jeni McCray. Tara was surprised with it being an online class how energetic and involved with each student Dr. McCray was. Despite being a virtual student, Tara made a strong connection through Dr. McCray’s teaching methods and genuineness.
International Student SNU: Du Junyao (Dolly)
International SNU student, Junyao Du, is a sophomore majoring in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in Marketing. Dolly is involved in ChangYou swimming association of Shenyang Normal University. She has been part of the organization since 2016 and is currently the leader of the association. Outside of school and swimming, Dolly enjoys visiting science and history museums. Dolly’s motivation to get involved with Leadership Programs is due to her desire to be a good leader. She already holds leadership roles and wants to continue improving her skills and abilities as a leader. As of right now, her favorite course within the department is LDRS 302, Leadership Behaviors. The class has taught her many practical skills on how to handle various difficult situations. With this knowledge, it has helped her efficiently manage conflict within her swimming association.
